Eleanor Bryan was also known as Ellender Bryan. She was born say 1720 at Marlborough (?), Chester County, PA; She signed as witness to a wedding in 1730, but her parents weren't married until 1719, so she may have been their first born, certainly their first born daughter. She married William Linvill, son of John Linvill and second wife of John unknown, possibly on on 3 May 1736 at MD/VA Frontier, Opequon, VA; Eleanor attended the wedding of Thomas Mills and Elizabeth Harrod at Josiah Ballingers in Monocacy in the early 18 June 1730 [Frederick County, MD], location of a small community of Quakers near today's Buckeystown, MN with her parents Morgan and Martha Bryan, so she clearly married after that. The Bryan family was firmly settled in Maryland by 1730, although they maintained connections backs in PA.
William's brother, John, likely married on this date based on the marriage records of Rev. Stover who married "two English couples" on this date in Opequon, where the parents of one of each of the couples were prominent. Is it possible this is the marriage for both William and Eleanor as well as his brother John and wife Anna Christina? As of circa 1738,her married name was Ellender Linvill. Eleanor Bryan appears on the 1778 tax list for Rowan County, NC. She appears on the 1778 tax list for Rowan County, NC, This is the first year she appears on the tax lists, though she must have had land before this. Husband, William Linville had extensive land holdings, some of which were not sold before he died. With no probate accounting following his death, there is important information missing. She died after 25 July 1794 at Madison County, KY; In the Morgan Linville papers at the University of Kentucky at Louisville, there is a slip of paper with both "Elinor" and son Morgan paying their taxed on 25 July 1794. A year later, the tax receipt only had Morgan for 1795.

David Linville was born before 1735 at Orange County, VA. The date of birth is calculated both from his appearance with a brother Thomas, Jr. and their father Thomas Sr. on a 1750 tax record in [Dan River Distrist-filed in Granville County] and from his David's role as a chain carrier on his father Thomas's 1754 survey in North Carolina. Both required chain carriers to be at least 16. In addition, David certainly would have been at least 21 when petitioning for his own and his father's land in 1762. He appears on the 1750 tax list for Dan River District, Granville County, NC. He witnessed the land of Thomas Linvill on 7 March 1754 at (now) Surry County, NC; as a part of Lord Granville Land Grant distibution of western NC land. The
survey 500 acres on Mayo Road south side of Fishers or Pinery Mountain - sons David Linvill and William Linvill were chain carriers. No deed for either these 500 acres or the 200 acres that each Thomas Sr. and Jr. were granted appear in Rowan County deeds. This is not atypical for the family as many land records were not officially recorded. It is also possible that the deeds were recorded in Orange County (given notations on the grants), but those records before 1778 include many burned in advance of Cornwallis's march through the area. David first entered a request for a warrant for 700 acres on Belews Creek, adjoining the Moravian claim 27 Feb 1762 that request included "Thos Linvill's Improvement." It seems likely that since the land wasn't actually "vacant," that the grant David finally got was 306 acres adjacent to Thomas's land six months later on 27 Aug 1762. As with other land of the Thomas Linvill family, no deeds were actually recorded although the warrant indicates a deed was given "2 copies Deed #111." David's Granville Grant for 306 acres on Belews Creek appears to have extended the Linvill family enclave beyond the 400 acres already acquired by his brother Thomas, Jr. and father Thomas, Sr. David Linvillewas asked in court to be part of a road crew with brother Thomas and William Holbrook and others to lay out a road from Cape Fare road near New Garden Meeting House [Guilford] to David Dillions mill joiining Town Fork Road near David Linvilles. In addition, others were appointed to straighten the road from David Linvilles to the Old Moravian on the Town Fork road with Abraham Vanderpool as overseer of that road. on 14 July 1767 at Rowan County. Six months later his place was mentioned again in reference to the Cape Fare to David Dillion road. He was a witness Later that year on 15 Oct 1767, Thomas Lingwell (sic) and David Lingwell (sic) were on a road jury to lay out a road from Belews Creek settlement to Salem through the most convenient place to Cornelius Cook's in Dan River Road. The road had been ordered after a petition from the residents of Belews Creek. with Thomas Linvill on 15 October 1767 at Belews Creek, Rowan County, NC. David Linville is mentioned in court again two days later when the justices mention a petition from the residents of Belews Creek for the need of a road from the settlement to Salem going by Cornelius Cook's into Dan River Road. Both David and brother Thomas are appointed to be road jury for laying the road. on 15 October 1767 at Rowan County, NC. He appeared in court in the following year the Rowan County Pleas and Quarter Sessions records indicate that 15 Jan 1768 Thomas Linvill was an overseer for the road that was already laid out from David Linvilles to the river with the "hands living in Blews (sic) Creek settlement." in January 1768. On 19 Apr 1768, Thomas, David, and Richard Linville were all ordered to appear to qualify to lay out the road from Cape Fear near New Garden Meeting House to David Dillon's Mill to Town Fork near David Linville's. David Linville replaced Abraham Vanderpool as the constable for Belews Creek the year after Vanderpool had been appointed. He appeared in court David's location on the road to Dillions Mill continues to be referenced in court records. between 10 May 1769 and 9 August 1769 at Rowan County, NC. Abraham Vanderpool resumed the constable duties for Belews Creek from David when he handed in the annual tax that Sept. in August 1769 at Rowan County, NC. He married Mary (?) before 1774 This may be widow Mary's first marriage or this may be the first Mary that David married. He clearly had a wife Mary both at the time of the 1774 land deed and when he died in 1787. But the Mary Linvill who married Carter Barnett in 1799 may not be the same person as David's wife Mary. Mary (----) Linville Barnett was born in 1863, according to her Rev. War Pension Claim under the service of Carter Barnet (note that she didn't apply as widow of David Linville). This would make her really young to have been married by 1774.
In addition, the heirs of David Linville's estate do not mention her. All the land deeds found to date involve only Worley, Richard and Charity, all referring to each other as heirs of David.
In addition, David was clearly old enough to buy and sell land before 1763. This suggests he may have been an older bachelor until a first marriage before 1772-4 and then second married a different Mary by 1779 (she would have been just 16 then). Regardless, he appears to have married late and had quite young children when he died in 1787. David Linville left a will on 14 February 1787 at Surry County, NC; Will names a wife (not named) and sons Thomas and Worley and "other children". David asks Worley to "care for Thomas for life" and states that Worley is not "of age". Inventory, returned by brothers Aaron and Richard, indicates he owed 300 acres in Guilford County and 180 in Surry (later Stokes) County. He died between 14 February 1787 and 10 May 1787 at Surry County, NC. His estate was probated on 10 May 1787 at Surry County, NC. A 1803 deed in Blount County, TN indicates that Richard and Charity Linville asked their "well beloved brother Worley" to stand in their place and sell their share of their father David's land in Belews Creek, Stokes County and Hogan Creek, Rockingham County in NC.
