Carter Barnett
M
Carter Barnett married Mary Worley (possibly) in 1799 at Rowan County, NC; Because Mary (Worley?) Linville second married Carter Barnett about 1799, a Revolutionary Was pensioner, there are records for her and her children by Barnett. However, those records invariably have her as born between 1761-1763 or later. But if David had only one wife, Mary, then she must have been a bit older to have been married and selling her husband's land with him by 1774. Missing 1800-1820 census records for the Barnetts hinder any additional determination at this point. We are assuming there is one wife Mary and she was born about 1758, and probably her birth name was Mary Worley, though this is only based on the name Worley occurring in her children and other descendants for several generations.
None of the heirs of David Linville's estate mention their mother in the land deeds found to date involving his estate, though they seem to have initially settled near each other after 1800 in newly opened (and disputed) land in Blount/Roane counties Tennessee. No census records exist for them until 1830.
Mary's second marriage by whom she had a number of children. Given there are no census records for where she was likely living in about 1795 through 1820, it is difficult to determine more. But her husband's will in 1842 lists 10 children, the first four-six of whom likely were born to his first wife. Children in Carter Barnett's will in 1842 Roane County TN were: Luke Barnett, John Berry Barnett, Wiley Barnett, Elizabeth Barnett Hickey, Priscilla Barnett Parker, Mary Barnett Isham (probably Mary Linville's first by Barnett), Nancy Barnett Smith, Martha Barnett Roberts. Alpha Barnett Blackwell (later Silvey), Huldah Barnett Blackwell. Carter Barnett married Mary (?) between 1799 and 1805 at Rowan County, NC, Mary's second marriage by whom she had a number of children. M, b. circa 1782, d. before 14 May 1842
| Father* | David Linville b. b 1734, d. bt 14 Feb 1787 - 10 May 1787 |
| Mother* | Mary Worley (possibly) b. bt 1758 - 1760, d. a 1860 |
Richard Linville was born circa 1782 at Belews Creek, Surry County, NC; though the county jurisdiction changed in 1789 to Stokes County. His father's land hadn't moved from Belews Creek and Hogan's Creek. Tthe two properties just fell in two different newly formed counties. After the death of his father in 1787, he appears to be enumerated in the household of his mother in 1790 Stokes County NC after which she remarries Rev War veteran Carter Barnett. By 1803, Richard appears on his own in Blount County TN signing a legal document, which suggests he is 21, therefore born about 1782. A 1803 deed in Blount County, TN indicates that Richard and Charity Linville asked their "well beloved brother Worley" to stand in their place and sell their share of their father David's land in Belews Creek, Stokes County and Hogan Creek, Rockingham County in NC. He witnessed the land of Worley Linville on 20 August 1803 at Blount County, TN; Worley received the power of attorney from his brother Richard and sister Charity, for their interest in two tracks of land in NC -- one in Belews Creek, Stokes County and one on Hogan's Creek in Rockingham County -- all the lands of their father, David Linville. Richard Linville was a signer along with the Rosson family to the Petition to the President and Congress by Intruders on Chickasaw Lands. The lands included both Giles County TN and Limestone County AL. He must have had a land grant in Limestone before 1818 because later tax lists identify it as his former property then owned by others. on 5 September 1810 at Giles County, TN. He appears on the 1812 tax list for Giles County, TN, He is listed next to John Roson (Rosson), his likely brother-in-law married to his sister Charity. He married between 1812 and 1815 at TN, based on the ages of his apparent children in 1820 and 1830 censuses. A court record was produced in White County TN in 1817-1819 involving Richard Linville and John Crook, adminstrator of John Kirby Gadsky asking for a deposition from Worley Linville of then Madison Co, MS. Most of the entries involve the lawyers so it is not clear that Richard was actually living in White County, but additional research on the people involved in the court case may clarify. He definitely was the son of David, though, since brother Worley in Madison County MS is mentioned. He appeared on the census of 1820 at Pulaski, Giles County, TN, A cousin, Jane Linville Smith (daughter of his uncle Thomas) was also living in Pulaski in the same vicinity at this time with her husband and family, Edward Smith. He appeared in court on a jury in September 1825 at Limestone County, AL. He appeared on the census of 1830 at Tipton County, TN, This appears to be the last existing record for this particular Richard Linville wthin the continental United States at that time. His household in Tipton County 1830 consisted of himself (born 1780-1790), and five children - 2 boys ages10-15; 1 boy age 5-10; two girls, one age 5-10 and the other 10-15. Apparently a wife had died after 1825.Richard, son of David Linville (d 1787) had children born in Alabama and owned land in San Augustine, Republic of Texas before 1842. Three of the children can be identified: David Linville, who saw service in 1836 for the Republic of Texas war of independence from Mexico; and Mary Ann wife of Sanders Jefferson Thacker of San Augustine County, TX, and Worley who sold the land inherited from father Richard in Sept 1846. Others should pursue additional information in the records of the Republic of Texas. Richard apparently moved to the Republic of Texas after 1830 as he owned land in San Augustine County, and Gonzales Texas that was inherited by a daughter Mary Ann (married to Sanders Jefferson Thacker) apparent son Worley after their brother David's death. He died before 14 May 1842 at St. Augustine County, Republic of Texas, The deed from his daughter Mary Ann Linville Thacker in 1842 makes it clear that Richard is no longer living. In addition son David who served in the army of the Republic of Texas who received a land grant in 1855 for that service. I am trying to find the original records.

| Mother* | Mary Worley (possibly) b. bt 1758 - 1760, d. a 1860 |
Her married name was Rosson. Charity Linville was born in 1787 at NC. 1803 deed in Blount County, TN indicates that Richard and Charity Linville asked their "well beloved brother Worley" to stand in their place and sell their share of their father David's land in Belews Creek, Stokes County and Hogan Creek, Rockingham County in NC. She witnessed the land of Worley Linville on 20 August 1803 at Blount County, TN; Worley received the power of attorney from his brother Richard and sister Charity, for their interest in two tracks of land in NC -- one in Belews Creek, Stokes County and one on Hogan's Creek in Rockingham County -- all the lands of their father, David Linville. Charity Linville probably married John Rosson in 1808. Her brother, Richard Linville, and her apparent husband, John Rosson, are listed next to each other on both the 1810 Elk River Intruders' Petition (Giles County) and the 1812 tax list for Giles County. Charity's two known sons have Linville and Worley given and middle names. She appeared on the census of 1840 at Hardeman County, TN, five years after her probable husband, John Rosson died in Hardeman County TN. Her brother Worley was living in the same county in 1830. She died after 1840.
