He married Elizabeth Reeves Manning, daughter of George Hezekiah Manning and Aleathy Reeves, on 9 May 1849 at Tippah County, MS. Richard McDowell Linville was Richard was a farmer. At various times he was also Justice of the Peace and Supervisior. between 1850 and 1900 at Tippah County, MS. He and Elizabeth Reeves Manning appeared on the census of 1860 at Davenports, Tippah County, MS. Richard volunteered as a soldier for the CSA. He was elected First Lieutenant in Cap. C. G. Blount's Company and later Cap. Givson's Company which was organized at Antioch Baptist Church. He did much hard work with the 23rd Mississippi Regiment commanded by Rev. Joseph Wells and Maj. Brooks Garrett. Richard McDowell Linville and Elizabeth Reeves Manning appeared on the census of 13 August 1870 at Tippah County, MS. Richard McDowell Linville and Elizabeth Reeves Manning appeared on the census of 1880 at Tippah County, MS. Richard McDowell Linville died on 1 February 1909 at Tippah County, MS, at age 81; Also have a DOD as 15 Feb 1908. He was buried at Antioch Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Antioch Community, Tippah County, MS.
