Catherine Linville was also known as Katherine Linville. She was born on 11 May 1802 at TN. As of 3 August 1820,her married name was Catherine Crowley. She married Thomas Crowley on 3 August 1820 at Ray County, MO; Catherine's first marriage. Catherine Linville moved in January 1847 Arrived in OR in early Jan. 1847 - "By 1846 the far west was beginning to open and Richard decided to move with his wife and sons' family to Oregon. They left Independence in the spring of 1846 for the plains of Oregon. Several other families were on that trip, including Richard's daughter, Catherine Crowley and her family. The trip became very hazardous at times and two tragedies occured to Richard's family. The following account is taken from Polk County Pioneer Sketches, Volume II. 'After leaving Fort Hall, they encountered many difficulties, hardships and privations, not the least of which was the danger of being attacked by Indians at any time. They had a very difficult time in coming through the Cow Creek Canyon, Canyon Creek being very high at that time, seriously retarding their progress. They had to cross it seventeen times. In the meantime they ran short of proficions and although it was a heartbreaking trip from the Rouge River Valley to the head of the Williamette Valley. Near the foot of the Calapooie Mountains not far from the present town of Drain, while fording a swollen stream the wagon tipped over and Mr. Linville's (Harrison) mother was drowned. They buried her at night on the bank of the stream. This occurred on November 22, 1846.'

The oxen were stabled over her grave so Indians would not find her grave. They did find it however, dug her body up, took her clothes and placed her body in a tree where the remains were found by prospectors years later. Catherine's husband, Thomas Crowley, also died on the 'Applegate Trail' as it became known, and Catherine's second husband James Fulkerson lost his wife and son on the trip to Oregon." Thomas Crowley died in November 1846 at OR; Died of pneumonia or typhoid fever at the very end of the trip from MO to OR. He was buried at Head waters of Calipooia Creek on "Long Tom" Creek, OR. - Mustered out in June 1847 at New Orleans, LA and returned home in Cole Co., MO. He was Minister - Early in life united with Cumberland Presbyterian Church and joined the New Lebanon Presbytery in April 1848. In 1849, he was licensed to preach the gospel and assigned a circuit that included Cole, Moniteau and Miller counties. After one year, he was transferred to the Saline and Pettis Circuit and upon preaching in this field for one year he became a student at Chapel Hill College in October 1850 where he pursued his studies for 2 1/2 years. In the fall of 1853, he was ordained a minister of the Gopel of Christ at Mt. Vernon, MO. He was then engaged for a time in missionary work in different counties of MO. In 1854, he accepted a call from the New Lebanon Church, at New Lebanon, MO,and remained its pastor until the fall of 1857. Moving to Platte City, he took charge of the church at that place and lived there until Nov. 1866. in 1849 at Cole County, MO. He married Sidney Elizabeth Sanders on 4 August 1853. Granville Linville Moad M.D. was Medical doctor - began studying and practicing medicine while pastor of the Platte City Church in Platte City, MO (moved there late 1857 or early 1858).
He attended St. Louis Medical College during this time - 1863 to 1864. between 1863 and 1864. He lived between November 1866 and December 1870 at Leavenworth, KS; Returned to Cole, MO from KS. He was Again attended St. Louis Medical College and graduated in the spring of 1879 and subsequented devoted himself to the treatment of the eye, doing only an office practice, at which he attained well merited success as a skillful oculist. between 1878 and 1879. An obituary appeared in (an unknown value.)
