Charity Hutchins

F
Charity is probably the daughter of Smith Hutchins, who is listed as a free white poll in Aaron's 1774 Surry County North Carolina household. However, John Hutchins who provided part of the bond for marriage on May 23, 1769 might also have been her father. Charity Hutchins married Aaron Linville, son of Thomas Linvill and Unknown (?), on 23 May 1769 at Rowan County, NC. As of 23 May 1769,her married name was Charity Linville. Charity Hutchins and Aaron Linville were divorced. Charity Hutchins was buried; According to family oral history, Charity is buried in old family field cemetery that was on property once owned by Connie Linville Preston (off Kernersville/Belews Creek road about 1 mile from Hwy 158). This graveyard has been cleaned up and is maintained by members of the Linville family reunion.

William's family evidently lived in Guilford Co. NC for a while. William Linville acquired William Linville on; William was also in charge of 150 acres owned by Moses Linville "of Tenn," "of the West," in Stokes Co. tax records "as a friend of Moses". William's son Elijah took over this function until 1846. He was born in 1776 at NC. He lived at Large farm, Belews Creek, NC; Land (about 600 acres) was located on Hwy 158 near the intersection with Kernersville Road and Piney Grove Road. Most if not all of this land was part of the original Thomas Linvill land grants. Most of this property is now owned by the Hester family. He was Farming - raised cattle and other livestock. Also owned a wagon shop. He married Elizabeth Cook in 1798. William Linville died in June 1848 at Stokes County, NC; Division of real estate of William's Book 15 page 525 Stokes Co.      Much of the verification of this branch of Linvilles is because of the work of NC genealogist Ruth Barnett, now deceased, who was hired by John's descendant Thomas Merrian Linville. The children apparently lived in Guilford Co. NC and Floyd Co. VA for a short time, as indicated by census records. John Linville was also known as John Sr John is known as John, Sr. in county records. He was born in 1784 at NC. He acquired John Linville on in 1806; John was granted land by his father in Belews Creek in 1806. He appeared in court Stokes County Bastardy Bonds state that John Linville was the father of a child born to Elizabeth Crim. The dates of the records start one month before John and Elizabeth Preston's marriage. John put up the 100 L bond the same day he offered surities for his marriage to Elizabeth Preston. The bond was for the maintenance of the child, but in Sept. 1820, Elizabeth Crim was allowed $20 for the second Year's allowance. It was evidently not paid by June 1822 because Elizabeth Crim took John to court for it. Whether the child carried the Linville or Crim is not known. It also appears that John and Elizabeth (Preston) Linville's first child was born at the same time of their marriage or earlier. in 1819. He married Elizabeth Preston on 14 September 1819 at Stokes County, NC. John Linville appeared on the census of 1850 at Forsyth County, NC. He was buried at Goodwill Baptist Church Cemetery, Belews Creek, Forsyth County, NC. He died in 1860 at NC.
