Mrs. Betty Griffin of Lincoln, IL, a descendant of James, has some notes from her great-grandmother saying they came from KY to IL in 1853 - 1854. They traveled by covered wagon from their home to Louisville, KY which took two days. They then took a boat to St. Louis where they transferred to the steamer LACON with Capt. George Stackpole. They left the steamer at Montazuma, IL and walked to Grandmother Linville's house.

It was probably this family that these notes were talking about. Grandmother Linville would then be Elizabeth Linville - James' wife. It appears that James was deceased by this time.
