Peter Linville was born on 25 April 1750. He was Enlisted in colonial militia. Served on Ohio frontier. in 1775 at Frederick County, VA. He moved at PA circa 1776 After militia service, moved to western PA. He married Lucretia Laing between 1778 and 1780 at Washington County, PA. Peter Linville appeared on the census of 1800 at Washington County, PA; Peter Linvel. He appeared on the census of 1810 at Cross Creek, Washington County, PA; Peter Linwel. He died on 19 April 1834 at age 83. He was buried at Cross Creek Graveyard, Washington County, PA; His gravestone states he was a soldier in the Revolution - stated in some family records to read "He was a brave soldier of the Revolution."

The following is from a newspaper clipping (dated 1 Sept 1927) found in Nancy Leah Dayton Linville's bible.
"Even before Kentucky became a state, three Linville brothers, Aaron, John and Louise (Lewis), together with a friend, Mr Insko, while still mere lads came to Kentucky to make furture homes. Also four Burton sisters came from Maryland to Kentucky with their parents to live. In the course of time, the three Linville brothers and their friend, Insko, met and married the four Burton sisters. After a number of years, one brother, Aaron, and his family started back to Pennsylvania and were never heard of again. It is supposed that they were killed by Indians."
The Insko friend was Samuel Insko. John Linville was also known as Peter John Linville. He was born in 1778 at Mt. Pleasant Township, Washington County, PA. He married Elizabeth Shelton on 18 April 1797 at Mason County, KY. John Linville married Nancy Burton, daughter of Jacob Burton and Sarah Tucker, on 25 August 1802 at Bracken County, KY. Fought in the War of 1812 along with his brothers Aaron and Jeremiah. John Linville died in August 1846 at Bracken County, KY.

- Per the Crumrine & Beers History of Washington Co, PA under Wilson Linville p. 1175 they list Jeremiah and three other sons Peter, Aaron and Lewis. So the question is whether the name was actually Peter John Linville.
